AMOR-Mozambican Association of Recycling in partnership with Millennium bim closed on Friday, October 17th at Teatro Avenida the pilot phase of the Recycling School contest 2014 program which aims at promote recycling in schools.

The Program Recycling School, Winning school Was implemented in 10 schools in the City of Maputo on 5 weeks in pilot format as well as in 5 schools in Vilankulo. During this period several activities have been developed, among them the installation of ecopoint for paper, plastic and metal waste, the establishment of environmental clubs, training of teachers/ coordinators in environmental education, and multiplication knowledge of the importance of recycling to the school and surrounding community. Furthermore, workshops to create purses and ornaments from waste were performed. The ornaments are meant to be used to ecological Christmas tree, which will be exposed at the Independence Square in Maputo during the festive season.

During the five weeks of activities, the ten schools have recycled 1,654 kg of waste, thus avoiding the cutting of 20 trees and enabling the production of new objects in plastic, paper and metal, saving natural resources and developing sustainability.
For the year 2014 the winner of the 10 participating schools with a total of 383 kg is the Complete Primary School A Luta Continua! Congratulations to the whole school community for their commitment and dedication. An see you in 2015!
