Summary of Activities – June – Beira

The Mozambican Recycling Association – AMOR, carried out in June, in Beira city, the following activities:

  1. Cleansing Day in celebration of the World Environment Day

On June 5 of each year is celebrated worldwide the World Environment Day. AMOR not being able to be absent in the celebration of this date, carried out on June 8th a cleaning day at Praia dos Biques, located in the Macuti neighborhood of Beira city. This activity was attended by about 300 participants, mostly students from the complete primary and secondary schools with which AMOR is currently developing the project “Environment Friendly Citizens”, funded by the European Union under the thematic line CSO-LA. It was also attended by members of Community Based Organizations, which actively mobilized their members and residents of their communities.

Along with the students and members of the organizations present there were collected about one and a half tons of waste, mostly Glass bottles and PET plastic bottles.

The event went beyond waste collection by adding recreational activities such as aerobics, relay racing and a moment of awareness about the negative impact that carelessness has had on the environment.

2. 1st Meeting of the Representatives of the Environment and Citizenship Clubs

On June 22, AMOR brought together representatives of the Environment and Citizenship Clubs of the schools where they implement the Citizen Friendly Project, for their first meeting at their level. The meeting was also attended by two (2) representatives of the youth parliament, whose aim was to give a talk on citizenship aspects, in particular the process of participation in national elections by individuals or organizations as election observers.

In addition to responding to this educational and informational aspect, this meeting served to elect at the level of the CAC’s, three (3) representatives, namely: the president, the vice president and the treasurer. The meeting culminated in the small leaders showing interest in the role of an election observer and was motivated when possible to exercise this right.
