Cabo Delgado marks World Cleanup Day with community action and a call for sustainability.

In the context of the celebrations of World Cleaning Day, which is celebrated on September 20, the city of Pemba, in Cabo Delgado, held an event of great environmental importance. The action brought together civil society organisations, local authorities and cooperation partners to promote ecological awareness and enhance the circular economy.

The activity took place along the coast of Praia do Inus, in front of the Provincial House of Culture. During the day, hundreds of volunteers participated in a community cleaning campaign, recyclable waste purchasing actions and an exhibition of articles produced with recycled materials and scientific products. The initiative showed the potential of the circular economy in the region.

The program also included cultural and educational moments, such as lectures, poetry, theater, dance, capoeira and a beach football championship. In the end, there was awards and an exhibition fair.

The Governor of the Province of Cabo Delgado, Valige Tauabo, representatives of the municipality and other local authorities were present and reinforced the commitment to environmental preservation. The ceremony highlighted the role of civil society organisations and partners in promoting environmental education and in proper waste management.

The event ended with calls for active participation of communities in building cleaner, more resilient and sustainable cities. The importance of collective responsibility in preserving the local ecosystem and biodiversity has been reinforced.
