Mozambican Recycling Association
It all started in Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, with the installation of three recycling points in 2010, managed by the Xidzuki Community Association, which works with HIV-positive people. Today, AMOR has created 28 community recycling points and 35 school recycling points involving more than 38,500 students in 15 municipalities. It has always pursued an inclusive strategy that aims to work with all potential stakeholders: the private sector, local and national authorities, civil society in the broadest sense, communities, and primary and secondary schools.
AMOR’s teams are spread across four offices: Maputo (headquarters and southern representation), Vilankulo (another southern representation), Beira (central representation) and Pemba (northern representation).
Our Mission
The amount of waste produced has increased significantly in recent times as a result of strong population growth and increased consumption, making solid waste management a major challenge in Mozambique, given that most of this waste is deposited without any treatment in open dumps. In this context, the Mozambican Recycling Association (AMOR) was created in 2009 with the aim of promoting and organising waste recycling in the country.

Our Strategy
Creating a favourable environment for recycling requires a comprehensive methodology, which we have broken down into four components:
- Support for the legal framework in the area of financing mechanisms to ensure that recycling is sustainable;
- Assistance and support in the creation and development of the Ecoponto Network, aspects related to waste collection and treatment;
- Creation of synergies between the public sector, private sector and civil society;
- Promoting the concept of citizenship and good governance for sustainable urban development.

- Raising awareness among the population: in schools, universities, civil society, and the private sector.
