RRCM: Preparação para primeira actividade de compra de resíduos em Pemba

A preparação para a primeira actividade de compra de resíduos em Pemba, na província de Cabo Delgado, no âmbito do projeto “Resiliência aos Resíduos Costeiros em Moçambique” (RRCM), está em andamento, com o objectivo de incentivar a reciclagem e a gestão sustentável de resíduos na cidade. A iniciativa implementada pela AMOR visa não apenas promover práticas ambientais responsáveis, mas também envolver a comunidade local em acções que contribuam para a preservação do meio ambiente. Para a ASMOG e a KUPENDANA, organizações parceiras do projeto, este evento representará um passo importante no esforço para tornar Pemba uma cidade mais limpa e sustentável. Com o financiamento da Agência para o Desenvolvimento do Reino Unido e apoio da Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance (ORRAA), o projeto inovador “Resiliência aos Resíduos Costeiros em Moçambique” visa remover 1.000 toneladas de resíduos sólidos da costa moçambicana e fortalecer organizações da sociedade civil, envolver comunidades locais e criar uma economia circular.

Environmental Awareness and Waste Purchasing Pilot Activities

On September 9, 2023, AMOR and its partners HelpCode, ProgettoMondo and AseS and Cooperativa de Educação Ambiental-Repensar carried out pilot Environmental Awareness and Waste Purchase activities that resulted in the purchase of 4,790. 15 kg of various types of waste (plastic, glass, paper, metals, used clothes, fishing nets, buoys) using the KOLEKT electronic application to record the purchase and monitoring operations in the town of Macaneta, Marracuene district, with the aim of protecting the coast and marine resources. The above-mentioned activities served to mobilize the community to take part in the celebrations for World Clean-up Day, which this year will be held on 16 September as part of the Macaneta for All: Integrated Coastal Resource Management for Economic and Social Empowerment project, funded by Italian Cooperation for the period 2023 to 2025.[barre]

Environmental Awareness and Cleaning Day in the Fishermen’s Quarter, Maputo City allusive to the World Environment Day

  Environmental Awareness and Cleaning Day in the Fishermen’s Quarter, Maputo City allusive to the World Environment Day In this action we had as results the participation of 30 volunteers among them fishermen and community in general, and collected 35 bags of various types of waste, including: 10 fishing nets, Glass, plastics, metals, used clothes, among others. At the local school, Escola Primária Completa da Costa do Sol, the students in general were made aware of the importance of celebrating the World Environment Day Environment Day which is celebrated annually on June 5 under the slogan: Solutions to Plastic Pollution. There was an exhibition of recyclable material made by students during the 1 year period of implementation of of the activities. The above activities are monthly and are supported by the Municipal Council of Maputo, funding from the Ocean Conservancy (ICC) in partnership with the Cooperative for Environmental Education Repensar, Geração Consciente, Planeta Azul and local associations: Community Council of Fishing Community Council, Fishermen’s Association and Fishermen’s Market. These activities aim to reduce the amount of solid waste at sea and raise awareness among the local population about the importance of marine ecosystems as a vector for preserving the environment and safeguarding human health. and to safeguard human health.[barre]

AMOR implementa campanhas de sensibilização ambiental no bairro dos Pescadores, Cidade de Maputo, referente ao mês de Maio de 2023

A AMOR – Associação Moçambicana de Reciclagem com o apoio do Conselho Municipal de Maputo e financiamento da Ocean Conservancy (ICC) em parceria com a Cooperativa de Educação Ambiental Repensar, Geração Consciente, Planeta Azul e associações locais (Conselho Comunitário de Pesca, Associação dos Pescadores e Mercado dos Pescadores), estão a implementar actividades de “Campanhas de Sensibilização Ambiental para a Protecção dos Recursos Marinhos no bairro dos Pescadores”, cidade de Maputo. Participaram desta acção 28 voluntários e foram recolhidos 31 sacos de resíduos diversos, nomeadamente: Vidro, plásticos, redes de pesca, metais, roupas usadas, entre outros. Na Escola Primária Completa da Costa do Sol foi ministrada uma palestra aos alunos e professores alusiva a passagem do Dia Mundial da Reciclagem que se assinala anualmente a 17 de Maio, e foi feita uma actividade prática de reaproveitamento de plástico da sacola para a produção de tapetes com os alunos do Clube do Ambiente. As actividades acima mencionadas têm como objectivo reduzir a quantidade de resíduos sólidos no mar e sensibilizar a população local sobre a importância dos ecossistemas marinhos como vector para a preservação do meio ambiente e para salvaguardar a saúde humana. 10th Anniversary – Acknowledgment Note

The Mozambican Recycling Association celebrates its 10th anniversary today. AMOR thanks all its financiers, partners, collaborators and the public in general for being part of this journey to promote recycling and environmental preservation in Mozambique. To all, our THANK YOU.

Summary of Activity – July – Maputo

As part of the implementation of the project “Strengthening Dialogue between Civil Society and the Maputo Municipal Council in Solid Waste Management”, by the French Embassy through Innovative Civil Society and Coalition of Actors (PISCCA) projects, the Mozambican Association of Recycling developed in July the following activity: Consolidation of training on Maputo City Council Master Plan This training benefited 15 members of three primary solid waste micro-enterprises. Twenty-eight proposals and indicators were formulated to achieve the objectives outlined in the new Master Plan that will be in force over the next 5 years. As a result of the exercise performed (in flipchart), contributions were presented for the components (1) Collection and Transportation, (2) Reduction and Reuse and (3) Education and Awareness. The consolidation resulted in the formulation of contributions in response to the indicators shown below: Pickup & Shippin Contributions formulated Indicator 1. Identify the challenges encountered Raising awareness to overcome them The second and third training sessions on coal production took place at Xipamanine Camp, which aimed to obtain coal dust. Trainees organized dry organic waste (leaves, coconut shells, grass, paper, cardboard, etc.) that were used to feed the drum ovens at the time of combustion. Members of three waste collection associations benefited from two training sessions on craftwork production by reusing PET caps and caps to produce buckets and baskets. Together with the associations ASSCODECHA, KUTENGA and MAKTEL BACISSA we organized three clean-up days covering the neighborhoods of Chamanculo C, Hulene A and Maxaquene C. 108 local residents including block chiefs and members of the area clean-up associations were involved in this activity. considered critical for the amount of improperly disposed garbage, and 69 50kg raffia bags of various waste were collected (plastic, paper, cardboard, PET bottles, glass, disposable garbage, leaves and tree branches, etc.). Finally, with the support of the Municipal Health and Graveyards Directorate (DMSC) of the Maputo Municipal Council, we conducted training on environmental awareness techniques for 15 primary solid waste collection operators. The DMSC These shared experiences in the environmental awareness of the residents, and stressed the need for involvement of local structures (neighborhood secretaries and block chiefs) that facilitate meetings or meetings with local residents.

Summary of Activities – June – Maputo

As part of the implementation of the project “Strengthening the Dialogue between Civil Society and the Maputo City Council on Solid Waste Management”, financed by French Embassy, through AMIS (Association of Civil Society and Coalition of Actors) In the month of June, AMOR carried out the following activities:  1. Communitarian fairs with recyclable items AMOR supported community fairs, which took place between 07 and 12 June in the districts of Chamanculo C, Maxaquene B and Hulene A. These fairs were held with the aim ofpresenting the new services that the associations come performing on the reuse and recycling of waste, as well as sensitize the residents living in the neighborhoods where they operate on the 3rs – reduce, reuse and recycle. The following materials were displayed at the tables: handicraft items: decorated PET and glass bottles, paper baskets, paper holders, decorated boxes, paper vases, poufs made from the reuse of PET bottles and cardboard boxes; handmade soap: made from the recycling of used cooking oil; and ecological charcoal: briquettes made from coal dust and paper. 2. Cleaning Days in 3 Neighborhoods of Maputo Together with the associations ASSCODECHA, KUTENGA and MAKTEL BACISSA, AMOR organized three cleaning days that covered the neighborhoods in which these associations operate. There were 97 local residents including the block heads and members of the associations involved in cleaning up areas deemed critical by the amount of garbage deposited improperly. – In the neighborhood of Hulene A, it was possible to collect 30 sacks of raffia / 50 kg of common waste, 1 sack of raffia / 50 kg of PET bottles and 3 sacks of raffia / 50 kg of bottles and broken glass. – In the neighborhood of Maxaquene B, 39 sacks of raffia / 50 kg of common waste were collected, and in addition to cleaning, a lecture was held to raise awareness among local residents about good solid waste management practices. – In the district of Chamanculo C, the cleaning was carried out in park of the neighborhood, near the cemetery of Lhanguene. Fifteen bags / 50kg of common garbage, 3 bags / 50kg of different plastic and 2 bags / 50kg of garradas and broken glass were collected in the place.  

Summary of Activities – May – Maputo

As part of the implementation of the project Strengthening the Dialogue between Civil Society and the Maputo City Council in Solid Waste Management, the AMOR (Mozambican Association of Municipalities of Mozambique), funded by the French Embassy through Innovative Projects of Civil Society and Coalition of Actors (PISCCA), In May, developed activities in the three micro-enterprises for the primary collection of solid waste, namely: ASSOCODECHA, Kutenga and Maktel Bacissa, located in the neighborhoods of Chamanculo C, Maxaquene B and Hulene A respectively. These activities consisted of: Consolidation of training on soap production, where 16 solid waste collection operators and their managers participated in the production of soap by recycling cooking oil, whose objective was to strengthen and improve the knowledge and skills of trainees in soap production procedures, by artisanal means. During this process 114 bars of soap of different sizes and sizes were produced, approximately 30 liters of used oil being recycled. In addition to the consolidation of soap production, 20 operators of the three associations were formed in the production of coal from the recycling of organic waste. This was held at Xipamanine Camp, where the Municipal Directorate of Health and Cemeteries made us available for this activity. Operators and their managers also had the opportunity to participate in the training on the Integrated Urban Solid Waste Management Plan (PGIRSU), where they had the opportunity to know what it is, its structure and its relevance. The representatives of Innovative Projects of Civil Society and Coalition of Actors (PISCCA) also visited two associations for the primary collection of solid wastes, namely: Maktel Bacissa and Kutenga, with the objective of monitoring the implementation of the activities in the beneficiary associations, particularly the impact of training on waste reuse and recycling.

Summary of Activities – April – Maputo

Regarding the Innovative Projects of Civil Society and Coalition of Actors Strengthening the Dialogue between Civil Society and the Maputo Municipal Council in Solid Waste Management, financed by the French Embassy through PISSCA, the following activities took place in April: 1 . Analysis of the quality of Ecological Soap in the Laboratory As a continuation of the implementation of the production of Ecological Soap, in April the quality of the Soap was analyzed. According to the results of the National Laboratory of Water and Food Hygiene (LNHAA) of the Ministry of Health, the ecological soap samples submitted to testing comply with the requirements established for domestic use. In the analysis of the parameters it was verified that this soap presents sensitivity for the bacteria mentioned, which means that the bacteria mentioned E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella Enteritidis, that cause disease are inhibited by the concentrations of ecological soap indicated in the results. 2 . Monitoring of the operation of the Ecopoints As part of AMOR’s monitoring of the three ecopoints under the responsibility of the ASSCODECHA, KUTENGA and MAKTEL BACISSA micro-enterprises, during April 2019 a total of 469 kg of solid waste was collected. 3. Delivery of protection and production materials to associations Due to safety and quality in the production process of Ecological Soap and BIO-COAL, in April the delivery of production and protection materials to members of the Associations was made. Materials such as boots, gloves, masks, goggles and uniforms were listed as IPE – Individual Protection Equipment. For the production of Ecological Soap was delivered a mixing machine, electronic scales, sodium hydroxide or caustic soda, powdered soap and buckets. For the production of Bio-Coal were given drums, 50kg bags, metal forms, rakes and construction shovels.
