The art and craft project out of recyclable waste – january – MAPUTO

[barre]  With the support of GIVE A HAND, AMOR – Associação Moçambicana de Reciclagem is implementing a project of art and craft made out of recycled materials. The objective is to train women and youth (workers in Ecopontos and AMOR’s staff ) to produce handicraft and develop micro-entrepreneurship. This project aims to promote social integration, generate incomes increase and improve living conditions through production and sells of products made with recycled material. Moreover, the project empowers women and youth that are working with recycling.  It teaches them a new vision of waste and provides knowledge on recycling processes to preserve the environment with the idea that they would also participate on the environmental clubs presents in schools. Concerning AMOR’s staff, the training completes their preparation to pass on their knowledge to children in schools and during the awareness campaigns developed by AMOR.  Those campaigns are part of AMOR strategy to include a large diversity of actors in the waste management processes. The training includes 25 sessions of which 20 are formation on handicraft production and 5 sessions are training on micro-entrepreneurship. In addition of this training, the beneficiaries are going to participate in events  (environmental fairs, expositions, online promotion on Facebook and recycling green pages, website and calatog) and  be broadcasted on television to advertise their work and help them launch their own activities.

Project of Selective Collection and Environmental Education at Unit 29 Primary School – MAPUTO

[barre]  AMOR- Mozambican Association of Recycling was established in 2009 to promote and organize the recycling of waste, with social impact. In the cities of Maputo, Matola, Beira and the Municipality of Vilanculos, AMOR is implementing systems for separation and collection of recyclable waste for further recycling, generating income for disadvantaged groups through ecopoints network. Ecopoints are collection points and purchase of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, metal and electronic waste. In parallel, AMOR develops projects of environmental awareness as the project School Recycles – School Wins and Environment and Citizenship (Projects of Environmental education where schools are awarded with school and sports equipment according to the quantities which they recycle), and in that context AMOR –Mozambican  Association of recycling in partnership with AVSI Foundation, the Municipal Council of the City of Maputo and the waste collection micro-enterprise the Clean Urbe implemented for seven months the project of selective collection and Environmental Education at Unit 29 Primary School. The project aimed to transform the existing academic community within the school in vectors of change and good practice in relation to environmental problems concretely implementing at the school a system of selective collection of recyclable waste by installing a recycling center infrastructure in school building and integration of environmental education activities with as waste management focus and finally assigning responsibilities to students regarding the generation and conditioning of waste within the school through environmental clubs that were created at school. The project helped to inculcate in the school community the spirit of responsibility for the care to have with the environment, helped to improve school hygiene and to reduce significantly the deposited waste inappropriately at school. AMOR thanks AVSI by the partnership in implementing this project, having fulfilled with zeal, rigor and competence in all matters relating to implementation of the same.

Summary of the project of Coal Production Design and Craft from Waste – VILANKULO.

[barre]  AMOR – Mozambican Association of Recycling in partnership with WE EFFECT under the ACT program (Action for Inclusive and Responsible Governance) launched on June 27 in Vilankulo. the draft Coal Production and crafts from organic waste. But once our intention is to invest in the environmental awareness of our communities through capacity building and empowerment of communities so that they become part of the solution of environmental problems. This project aims to provide the community with practical and theoretical knowledge which will allow them to develop economically in a sustainable manner, contribute to the reduction of deforestation for charcoal production, contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere through waste recycling and support the Municipality in the Management of Urban Waste. In this context were formed in coal production 10 Neighborhood committees Where one in each 9 districts (19 October, 5th Congress; June 25; High Macassa; From this, Airport, 7 September; Chibuene) covered and one in the ( Mucoque)   market. The committees are constituted of 10 members chosen by the secretary of the district. Which carried out a baseline questionnaires in order to assess the project’s impact on community life. Besides coal production training committees members also learn to make crafts with recycled material (tetrapack wallets and going-come).

Selective collection project in the neighborhood George Dimitrov – MAPUTO

[barre] The Mozambican Association of Recycling in partnership with AVSI, Maputo City Municipal Council and the Micro company Urbe Clean (Primary Collection Company) are implementing a Project of Selective Collection and Environmental Education in the neighborhood George Dimitrov (Benfica).For the implementation of the project was placed in the Primary School Unit 29 a scholar ecopoint/  recycling center that is a point of collection of recyclable waste (paper, plastic, and metal), and with the support of the UrbeLimpa in the process of integrated management of solid waste (including the recycling component) it is done the collection of recyclable. To encourage the participation of all members of the school community, AMOR will give a green point for each kg of recyclable material that is heavy, where the sum of green points will be reverted in favour of the school. This is an educational project that integrates practice and awareness of civil society on issues related to solid waste and its consequences to the environment. This project comes as a result of the positive impact of the projects  Recycle and Win developed in 10 schools in Maputo and in 4 schools in the town of Vilanculos which has been carried out since the year 2014 and the project of Environment and Citizenship, which was recently launched in Beira where 10 schools are involved and the need to expand this type of activity which has the ultimate goal to raise the environmental awareness of citizens with particular focus on waste management. One of the great innovations of this project, it is the difference is the incorporation in the project urbe Clean, a micro primary collection of waste company that has a responsibility to make the management of recyclable waste and collected at school. In the School was installed a scholar Ecopoint and created an Environmental Club in the Primary School Unit 29 responsible for boosting the activities of the club within the school . This amount will be transferred in the school’s bank account each quarter. The idea is that the private sector and the community can also contribute to the improvement of the educational conditions of the school district, through donations from their separated recyclable waste. This will allow the awareness of all residents of the neighborhood George Dimitrov.

AMOR participated in ‘Mapping of Organizations of the Civil Society in Mozambique’ – organized by the European Union – MAPUTO

[barre] On 12 October 2015 the results of a study were released in Maputo, named ‘Mapping of Organizations of the Civil Society (CSOs) and their Partners in Mozambique’. The mapping of the civil society is an instrument that aims to provide the European Union and all stakeholders with a comprehensive overview of the state of CSOs, including the identification of their needs, proposals to maximize its influence on the definition and monitoring of public policies, and guidelines to improve the support strategy for CSOs. The results of the study was presented during a seminar that aimed to contribute to the debate on the institutional environment of the activities of CSOs and distribute the map of international partners that are committed to civil society. It tried to strengthen the dialogue between these partners and governmental actors and national and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and improve the relationship between the academic world and civil society. Moreover, it reflected on for strengthening the perspectives for civil society.

AMOR participated at ‘Operation Caco’ – MAPUTO

[barre] To celebrate ‘International Earth Day’, AMOR, participated at ‘Operation Caco’ on April 18, 2015 along the beaches of Maputo. The motto of the operation was ‘Let’s remove the glass from the beaches’ and was an initiative to prevent accidents and educate citizens. Over the years the broken glass has been dumped in the dunes and the sand at one of the main tourist destinations of the country. The organization of this activity had the support of: ‘Instituto Superior Monitor’, Cooperative Environmental Education Ntumbuluku, Mozambican Association of Recycling (AMOR), Association of Environment, Conservation and Education of Mozambique, Começa Com Um Pequeno Passo, Limpa Moçambique, ‘Pró Ambiente’ of the Faculty of Environment of the University Eduardo Mondlane, Maputo City Radio, Independent Television of Mozambique – TIM, the Natural History Museum, the Association of Capoeira ‘Abaete’, and the PRAIAMAP movement – Friends of the Maputo Beach, in partnership with the Municipality of Maputo.

Millennium BIM, in partnership with AMOR, officially awarded a prize to the school “A Luta Continua” (‘The Fight Continues’) that they won within the pilot project ‘Recicla e Ganha’ (‘Recycle and Win’) in the third quarter of last year (2014).

[barre] Millennium BIM, in partnership with AMOR, officially awarded a prize to the school “A Luta Continua” (‘The Fight Continues’) that they won within the pilot project ‘Recicla e Ganha’ (‘Recycle and Win’) in the third quarter of last year (2014). The official award ceremony took place at April 3 this year. The price consisted of a (class)room in which the schools environmental club can get together and work on projects. The event was attended by teachers from some of the other contestants schools, partners, representatives of the ministry of Education, and members of the schools environmental club.

AMOR participated in event during the World Forestry Day – MAPUTO

[barre] Commemorating the celebration of the World Forestry Day, AMOR participated in an environmental fair, which was held on March 21 2015 in the Garden of teachers (Jardim dos Professores). The aim of the fair was to draw attention to the protection of forests. and promoting environmental awareness through various entertainment activities (learning while playing). The Forests play an environmental and ecological role: in the conservation of water, soil, and biodiversity. AMOR participated by exposing different bags used for waste separation and showing images that illustrate the consequences of poor waste management. Environmental education was promoted through workshops in which juice packages (Tetrapacks) were used to make wallets and the game ‘Vai-Vem’ was played with a plastic bottle (PET). In this way AMOR aimed at strengthening the concept of recycling and stressing the importance to practice the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. This includes reducing waste, sharing ideas and contributing to the preservation of the environment.

Bins of AMOR – MAPUTO

[barre] To improve the environmental conditions of the beach of Costa do Sol in Maputo, a AMOR proposes a cleaning solution, collection and recycling in the beach area the project is Baldes de AMOR: this consists of placement of waste bins along the beach and cleaning agents who clean the beach daily.
