Dear Sirs and Madams, Dear Partners, AMOR – Associação Moçambicana de Reciclagem (Mozambican Recycling Association) was created in September 2009 to promote and organise waste recycling with social impact in Mozambique. Every day, more people are concerned about what we call “rubbish” and are willing to change their relationship with the environment. Today, together with our partners, we recycle approximately 400 tonnes per month of the waste produced in the country, involving more than 1,500 formal and informal participants.
The development of recycling has proven its relevance and power as one of the strongest tools of the so-called ‘circular economy’ with countless positive impacts in social, economic and environmental areas. However, there is still much to be done in order to make recycling in Mozambique a more widespread reality.

Created in 2009 to promote and organise recycling in Mozambique with a social impact, AMOR now operates in 15 of Mozambique’s 53 municipalities, with its headquarters in Maputo and offices in Beira, Pemba and Vilankulo.
In recent years, AMOR has successfully implemented more than 30 recycling projects, involving around 2,000 community groups and more than 40,000 children in primary and secondary school activities. More information in our Project Catalogue.
Today, with AMOR, between 400 and 600 tonnes of waste are recycled each month, involving between 1,500 and 2,000 people. We are proud of this result and would like to thank our partners for their support and waste management in Mozambique and around the world.
However, this is only 2% of the total waste produced each month in Mozambique. There is still a long way to go before large-scale recycling becomes a reality.
