The PESCADOR-CATADOR project was created to address the challenges faced by coastal communities in the Maputo Environmental Protection Area (APAM), which are characterized by a high dependence on artisanal fishing, socioeconomic vulnerability, and environmental degradation due to the accumulation of solid waste.
The main focus of the project was to transform the subsistence and environmental management paradigm in the APAM communities through the implementation of concrete actions that combine environmental sustainability, economic inclusion, and community education.
Goals
Increase income diversification for fishing communities by 2025.
Clean up the coasts and the sea, aiming to remove 100 tons of waste by 2025.
Strengthen environmental awareness among fishing communities.
Results
Removal of 100 tons of waste from the coastal area of APAM.
Generation of income for 50 families from artisanal fishing communities.
Environmental awareness raised among communities within APAM.
