During the month of April, AMOR carried out the following activities
1 . Reconstruction of homes of employees affected by Cylone IDAI
Following the break in activities as a result of the Cyclone IDAI that affected Sofala province in March, in April AMOR organized a fund raising so that it could provide support to its employees who were directly affected by that episode.
Thanks to the donations made by taxpayers and donors, in April the Mozambican Association of recycling started with the reconstruction of the houses of its collaborators. The necessary construction material was purchased and during the same period the reconstruction of the homes most affected by the Cyclone IDAI began.
2 . Completion of Baseline Questionnaire in Schools
In the ambit of the Environmental Friendly Citizens Project, funded by the European Union through the CSO-LA thematic area, implemented by AMOR, ended on 23 April the completion of a baseline questionnaire in Primary and Secondary Schools where AMOR implements the CAA project.
The objective of this questionnaire was to evaluate the level of knowledge of the students members of the Clubs and not members of the Clubs, regarding the Environment and Citizenship. 642 students were questioned, with 286 Club members in schools and 356 non-Club members. In this total of students interviewed, it was noticed that the girls found themselves in a greater number of the respondents, occupying 48% of the non-members of the CAC’s and 50.3% of the CAC’s in all the schools.
Based on the questionnaire, it was noted that the students already participated in several cleaning activities, however, it would be necessary to streamline and diversify the activities in a way that are complementary to the ones that students are already accustomed to participate.
This activity, in addition to assessing the students ‘level of knowledge prior to the implementation of the activities and sessions, serves to adapt the AMOR program to the students’ level of knowledge, allowing their evolution to be evaluated throughout the project.
3. Training of OCB members to open ECOPONTOS
On 15 April, training was held in the boardroom of the OJOLISC Community Association on the management of ecopoints. Members of the OJOLISC and ANZATHU associations benefited from this training.
This training refers to the training strategy that the Mozambican Recycling Association carries out with community-based organizations that have worked in parallel on the achievements of the projects implemented by AMOR. It should be noted that OJOLISC manages an ecoponto located in the MUNHAVA neighborhood in the city of Beira, and other associations also manage their ecopoints at their organizational headquarters.
