AMOR and Municipality of Maputo celebrate World Recycling Day
On 17th of May 2014, AMOR and the Municipal Council of Maputo celebrated the World Recycling Day, at Josina Machel Secondary School, under the motto : Clean Maputo, Happy Maputo – Clean now, tomorrow will be late (Maputo Limpo, Maputo Feliz, – limpe agora, amanhã será tarde”).
Several social and environmental organizations participated to the celebration such as NGO’s, students, private sector, public sector, associations, students and professors from the Environmental Management course of the Universidade Pedagógica (Pedagogical University) as well as recycling companies and associations . Lectures focused on the management of solid urban waste and the 3Rs cycle (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!). Debates were about the responsibility of each sector to perform effective actions on urban waste. Cultural presentations have been performed by the Dance Group Guaza Mutine as well as exhibitions of reused and recycled material.
AMOR participated through interventions during the debates, exhibitions of reuse and recycled material, workshop with the fabrication of Tetrapacks wallets made out of milk and juice boxes. Furthermore, a particular attention was paid on the one hand to the consequences of irresponsive disposal waste for animals and their associated ecosystems, and on the other hand to the benefits of recycling with its social, economic and environmental impacts.
