Associação Moçambicana de Reciclagem

Summary of Activities – March – Beira

During March, the Mozambican Recycling Association had the following activities:

1. Results Orientation Monitoring

In March, the Mozambican Recycling Association received an expert from the European Union for the results monitoring visit. Associations, selected schools, the case of the Secondary School of Ponta-Gêa, the Primary School Jorge Traquino and the Secondary School Nossa Senhora de Fátima and AMOR partner institutions in the city of Beira were visited. The purpose of this visit to these institutions was to understand how the Mozambican Recycling Association has been working with its partners on the projects carried out.

2. Waste collection at school ecopoints

During the month of March, community associations began with the process of collecting solid waste at school ecopoints.
OCDesp and AMACO are two of the associations that regularly already collect waste in schools on a regular basis by the level of waste in their areas and responsible schools. OCDesp collected about 25 kg of waste, directly from the school ecopoint at the Escola Secundária do Estoril. Amount that was the result of the sensitization work of that student community, in order to maximize the use of ecopoints and simultaneously compete for the winner of the Recicla com AMOR prize.

3. Meeting with representatives of the Environment and Citizenship Clubs

On the 21st of March, the Mozambican Recycling Association met with the leaders of the Environment and Citizenship Clubs of the schools where it implements the Citizens Friendly of the Environment Project to outline the activity plan for the year 2020 and elect representatives at the level of the 13 CAC’s.
With the start of activities in schools, the representatives of the Environment and Citizenship Clubs had the mission to bring and present their activity plans for the year, along with the status of each club, from difficulties, improvements and solutions to possible problems . In order to create greater organization and comply with the project’s objectives, 3 general representatives of the clubs were elected, who will answer for the CAC’s in case of need.
Due to the interruption of school activities for a period of 30 days, AMOR was not indifferent, determining that activities in schools will also be interrupted, allowing students to comply with the period of social isolation.
The Mozambican Recycling Association and the representatives of the clubs are currently looking for alternatives to continue the sessions with students at a distance, so that they do not stop with the activities completely.

4. Delivery of Tricycles

The Mozambican Recycling Association finalized the delivery of tricycles to community associations in March.
With regular solid waste collection activities at points in the communities, tricycles help and simplify the waste collection process that these associations have been carrying out. In addition to the management of community ecopoints, these associations are responsible for the school ecopoints closest to their locations.
With the delivery of the remaining tricycles in March, a total of 7 OCB’s AMOR partners have a waste transport tricycle at their ecopoints, with the capacity to load up to a big bag with waste above half of its total capacity.
