On October 1, the project “Commercialization of Bio-char in the Markets of Vilankulos” was launched, complementing the two previous phases implemented in 2016 and 2017, which focused on empowering the community (farmers) in the production of bio-char, where firstly it was promoted as a substitute for charcoal, the main source of fuel in Mozambique, and in the second phase as a substitute for chemical fertilizers in the fields, and in the latter the Bio-char showed to have great impact not only on the reduction of organic waste which are daily deposited in the dumps as well as in the improvement of the agricultural productivity of the soils. During the implementation of the project, the potential of bio-char and the need to introduce this product into the market for agricultural inputs as an alternative source to improve soil capacity in relation to chemical fertilizers were confirmed. It is in this context that the launch of this 3rd phase was carried out, with the support of AGIR (Action Programs for Inclusive and Responsible Governance) through WE EFFECT. The event was held at JAM (Joint Aid Mozambique), located at the administrative post of Pambara, Vilankulo district in Inhambane province. It was attended by the partners involved in this phase namely: JAM ESUDER (Higher School of Rural Development) and SDAE (District Services for Economic Activities).
Under the partnership between AMOR and the SDAE (District Services for Economic Activities of Vilankulos). On October 3rd, AMOR trained 12 SDAE technicians and extensionists on the production of bio-char, since they will be responsible for the dissemination of the message of environmental preservation and the importance of the use of Bio-char in the soil and supported the peasants in this area, in the district. The training took place in two phases, theoretical and practical, and the same is the complement of the current project that is taking place in the District in question “Marketing of Bio-char in Vilankulos Markets”
